CAACC and CIC Welcome Baoding Delegation
In honor of the 26th anniversary of its Sister City alliance with Charlotte, a Baoding, China delegation led by its Vice Mayor Zhou made a 2-day visit in Charlotte. CAACC worked closely with the Charlotte International Cabinet (CIC) to facilitate their visit, co-hosting a reception on June 17, and focusing on establishing economic collaborations between the two cities. Led by CAACC's Professor Jian Zhang and John Zhang, both CIC Board members, CAACC members were joined by a good turnout of representatives from the local Chinese and Asian communities.
Baoding, China has been lauded by the United Nations for it s commitment to renewable energy sources. According to the UN's Conference on Sustainable Development,
"Baoding has undergone a transformation from a traditionally dirty textile and automobile manufacturing city to a central hub for renewable energy production and deployment. Over 200 producers of wind, photovoltaic and thermal mass solar, biomass and energy efficiency technologies now call Baoding home, resulting in the creation of over 20,000 additional jobs and the generation of more than $1 billion in fiscal revenues in 2009. Baoding?s companies combined to manufacture and sell 500 megawatts (MW) of solar products and 5089 MW of wind power products in 2008 alone."
Baoding has been a sister city to Charlotte since 1987. Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx made an official visit to Baoding in 2011.
